The first village we visited in Crete was the town of Thrapsano which is known for its pottery and ceramics. We visited a potter's workshop here.
Our guide showed us an interested mug called Pythagora's cup or the cup of Justice. Pythagoras created this Cup 2500 years ago, and was used by his students. During the lesson breaks they could drink wine equally. But any students who took more than their fair share (beyond the line on the cup) would lose it all (from a hole in the bottom of the cup. This is why it was also called the Fair Cup. If you got greedy, you would lose it all!!!
We then entered the potter's workshop for a demonstration...
Our second visit was to the town of Arolithos to a traditional Cretan village to visit some shops, have a Cretan snack and a folkloric show of dancers who performed Greek and Cretan songs.

A delicious snack of spanakopita (little cheese and spinach pies), olives and cucumbers, and our choice of beverage including wine or raki, the anise-flavoured national drink.

It was a great introduction to Crete.
